Every storm in NOAA's two HURDAT2 best-track databases — 2,004 Atlantic cyclones since 1851 and 1,262 Northeast Pacific cyclones since 1949 — matched to the places they passed. Storm counts, closest approaches, strongest winds and return intervals, computed rather than estimated.

How this is built. NOAA records storm positions every six hours. We interpolate each track to
one-hour steps before measuring distance, so a storm that passed close between two six-hourly fixes is not misreported as a
distant one. Distances are great-circle (haversine) from the place's geographic centre. Full detail in
